Lumphini Park

สวนลุมพินี

Bangkok's central green — dawn tai chi, evening runs, resident water monitors.

Bangkok's original park, gifted by Rama VI in the 1920s and still the city's green heart. Come at six in the morning when the tai chi groups claim the lawns and the monitor lizards patrol the lakes like small unhurried dinosaurs, or at six in the evening when the running loop fills and the outdoor gym by the lake clangs. The paddle boats are worth it; the view of the Sathorn towers rising over the treeline is the city's best free skyline.
